About Us

FROM THE DESK OF THE VICE CHANCELLOR

On behalf of the Management of Ebonyi State University, I bring you greetings and welcome you to one of the latest Postgraduate programmes in the Medical & Health Sciences of the University. The Centre of Reproductive Health Research and Development (c-Rep) has been designed to address maternal health issues that are first and foremost a challenge to the health care delivery system in Nigeria and other developing countries and hence proffer solutions that can address these non-communicable health issues in our environment with a view to reducing the unacceptable high maternal mortality resulting thereof. I strongly believe that a well-crafted need-based research into areas in reproductive health generally and addressing specifics such as the Assisted Reproduction Technology & Embryo Transfer, management of infertility among couples, the issues of Oncology including contextualized surgical and nursing interventions for common cancers like breast, cervical and prostate cancers, curbing the tide of obstetric fistula especially in areas of post-repair quality of life care, and researches into renal pathology and uro-gynaecology, can be achieved. These areas I believe can be subjected to deeper studies to help reduce the economic losses occasioned by illnesses in terms of productivity time loss by patients and caregivers, post-incident quality of life and psycho-social complications. The programme has been calibrated to cater for all groups of Health care professionals interested in Women`s Health, including the busy clinicians and surgeons who may need a certificate course as knowledge updates, to full-fledged clinical and field-based researchers who may apply their vast clinical and field experiences in these areas, to better medical practice in our horizon. I therefore strong recommend this programme to Obstetrician/ Gynaecologists, Urologists, General Surgeons, Pathologists, Surgical Oncologists, Nurses, health care professionals and academics in related areas who want to add to knowledge and improve medical practice in our context.

WELCOME TO C-Rep
The National Obstetric Fistula Centre, (NOFIC) Abakaliki, was established in 2011 by Federal Government of Nigeria as the first National Hospital in Nigeria, to specifically address the issues of Obstetric Fistula, which at a time had a prevalence rate of 200,000 cases, with an annual incidence of 6,000. The mandates of the Centre include treatment, rehabilitation & Re-integration, prevention, training & research. With the addition of oncology management, both the increasing cases of breast and cervical cancers and involvement of males in reproductive health through detection and supportive treatment for prostate cancer, further positioned NOFIC as a Reproductive Health facility.
